BIO
Full Professor in the Department of Management and Finance at the University of Murcia. He obtained a degree in Business Administration and Management (2001) at the University of Murcia and BA (Honours) Accounting and Finance in Europe (2001) at Manchester Metropolitan University. He then completed a Master’s degree in Foreign Trade Management (2002) at the ENAE business school. He obtained his PhD and European Doctorate (2006) at the University of Murcia, with Extraordinary awaard and also National award of the Spanish Association of Academic and Professional Marketing (AEMARK).
His teaching activity is mainly concentrated in the Faculty of Economics and Business, although he has taught in the faculties of Computer Science, Communication and Documentation, Law and Labour Sciences, both in undergraduate, master’s and doctoral studies. Internationally, he has been a guest lecturer at numerous universities both in Spain and abroad. He has written several manuals, including the interactive book Eureka, innovación y nuevos productos (Eureka, innovation and new products). He has participated in numerous teaching innovation projects and has received and given teacher training courses. During his more than twenty years of professional activity, he has been awarded four five-year teaching periods. He has been awarded the “Fast Forward Entrepreneurship Educator of the year” prize organised by the “Triple E Awards” and the “ACEEU” association.
His research has been mainly linked to innovation and new technologies, making important contributions in the field of launching new products to the market and the design of innovative business models. He has been principal investigator and member of numerous international, national and regional projects. He has published more than fifty research articles in JCR journals and more than ninety communications in national and international congresses, he has three six-year research periods and one six-year transfer period. His work has been published in several prestigious journals such as Harvard Business Review, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Technovation, Industrial Marketing Management, International Journal of Information Management, Information & Management or Telematics and Informatics. He has also spent several periods at research centres such as Delft University of Technology (2005) and Michigan State University (2008).
In terms of university management, he has held the positions of coordinator of innovation and virtual classroom (2018-2022), director of the master’s degree in marketing (2012), director of the master’s degree in foreign trade (2011), member of the faculty of the University of Murcia (2010-2014) and Erasmus and ISEP tutor with numerous universities (2008-2022).
In the field of transfer and dissemination, he has carried out contracts with companies and public administrations, has been the organiser of three international conferences (EMAC; IPDM, DROIDCON), has published scientific dissemination articles in the press, and has been secretary and treasurer of the Spanish Association of Academic and Professional Marketing (AEMARK). He is a member of the Chair of Family Business and the Chair of the Innovation Ecosystem of the Region of Murcia. He has also developed projects to help SMEs in the design of their business models www.businessmakeover.eu . He is passionate about podcasting where he regularly contributes to the Emilcarfm network with the Eureka and Cum Laude podcasts.
Research areas
My research focuses on aspects related to marketing, innovation and new technologies. The works I have published have focused on analyzing questions such as: What strategies are more appropriate for the launching of new products, How can new technologies be implemented within the company, Why mobile services are successful in the market or are catalogued as a failure by the customers?
I have published on these topics in magazines such as Harvard Business Review, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Industrial Marketing Management, Harvard Business Review, Technovation, Information & Management, International Journal of Information Management, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, Electronic Markets and European Management Journal, among others. Moreover, I regularly participate in national (AEMARK, ACEDE) and international conferences (AMA, PDMA, EMAC, etc.).

Teaching areas
I consider myself a person very involved in teaching. I teach at different academic levels, from first year undergraduate to Master and PhD at the University of Murcia. In these classes, my students enjoy learning the basic principles of marketing, new product development and launch strategies, business models and the challenges of mobile marketing.
During my academic career I have also taught research seminars in different universities both nationally (University of Salamanca, University Pablo de Olavide, Universidad Oberta de Cataluña) and internationally (University of Manchester, University of Delft, University WU Vienna, University of Turku, University of York, Lappeenranta University).
